About Me
My Story
Nepal
I was born in Kathmandu, Nepal as a third generation Tibetan refugee. My mother’s family immigrated from Nyalam & Lhasa, Tibet, and we found home in the Jawalakhel Tibetan camp. We sold carpets to make a living until my father won the Green Card lottery.
India
My father’s family left Tibet for Northern India in the 1960’s. I’d visit as a child, and was sent to a school for Tibetan refugee children to learn about our past. I followed a few years later with Indian boarding school in my family’s attempts to keep me close to my roots.
Minnesota
Minnesota was my first home in the States, and where I spent the majority of my childhood. We lived in a suburb of the Twin Cities for most of that time. I tried my best to fit in but did a bad job. I joined the Tibetan youth dance group there and did even worse.
California
I moved to California for school and spent a decade along its shores. Daily swims in the ocean and attempts to surf framed my time in nursing school well. It took me until I passed my boards to realize I wanted to be a creative instead, but luckily I made the right choice.
